I've always maintained that big triple is one of the best real world engines out there, I've not ridden the latest version yet, and to be fair it'd still be a little heavy on the knee, I love my Superduke, immense fun but it's nowhere near as versatile as the speed triple, for example it was virtually impossible to handle on ice & snow, where as the Speed 4 and indeed the Speed 3 are far more manageable.

can't really speak on the 1050 or 675; as apart from test rides and a few minor jobs I've done for others I've not owned either, but the 955i is a great engine, had one gearbox problem on a 78k one, but covered over 100k on 6 others without anything more than everyday running issues you would expect with that sort of mileage.

Built quality :smt102, IMO the original T5's of the late 90's-02 were built to last, the modern ones perhaps aren't as good, but no worse than the Jap stuff I'd say.

Mmmmm, might be worth tracking down a few triumph forums just to see what is happening in general with the various bikes...

I am very tempted by the tiger 800 and that would be a risk I guess as it's new out, although based on an existing engine. Any nasty problems with the 675 that you've heard of or is it all 1050 stuff?

Also, the alternatives mentioned are a KTM and an Aprilia, are they better in the reliability/quality stakes than a triumph?

How about a 1st gen Tuono? This one was bought for £2500, they are not as expensive to insure as other thou bikes, at least the Falcow isn't.

It does look a bit of an after thought doesnt it lol... a nice streetfighter style head light and remove the mirror and it would look awesome though.

The Tuono is in my test ride short list, for me the next bike has to be a bike with a comfortable riding position i.e. riser bars not clips but I can't make my mind up whether I want a naked or faired bike...it's one of these naked bikes: Super Duke, Tuono (can you call it faired...), Speed Triple (hence my interest in this thread) or one of these more adventure style bikes: Tiger, SMT, Adventure - for now :)

I will be busy test riding all of those when it gets a little nicer out there (although I need to track down a demo Tuono and Adventure in my area...none available to test at the local dealership).

Are there any IL4's I should consider bearing in mind I want lower down grunt as I don't want to have to rev the nuts off a bike...

edit: Sorry, I don't mean to de-rail the thread, just curious while on the topic of these style bikes
