Re: good six sided sockets ?
Impact sockets will last a life time, probably a bit more than your budget but as you intend following an engineering career a wise investment for the future when you start purchasing air tools. My set starts at 10mm up to 36mm but I was mainly working on heavy commercials with much higher torque settings than smaller vehicles.
If it is for college work only as set of Clarkes should suffice |

Re: good six sided sockets ?
Bahco, excellent value. I have a 1/2" set in my mobile toolkit.
Quality steel, 6 sided and flank drive. I take it with me rather than my snapon stuff as the range is quite wide |

Re: good six sided sockets ?
Another vote for bahco here, had a lot of their kit at a place I worked, they got very abused. Lots of concrete dust and other abrasive muddy crap about, put away wet a lot etc. as well as the usual daily abuse jumping up and down on them with a scaff pole on the end. I think the sets in use were about 5 years old without failure.

Re: good six sided sockets ?
Look on ebay for Blue Point (another trading name for Snap-On) or a set of used Snap-On ones. I got a full set of Snap-On 3/8 drive 6 sided flank drive sockets on a quick release rail for less than 50 quid recently. I've seen new Snap-On sockets on rails for not a lot more.

If you are looking for tool for a career i would recomend Snap-on i have stuff i bought 13 years ago. and still have them and they are in good order. ppl will say that they are over priced etc but IME they are worth every penny if you look after them. there is a reason mechanics buy snap-on. not sure if they still to credit but they used to and it made it easier. "buy cheep buy twice" |
