Sounds like a cunning plan, I live 2 minutes from Crocketford, so could meet you there for the fun bit across to Balmaclellan and then back up to Moffat.

Did Balmaclellan to Crocketford tonight on the way home (well a 20 mile detour!):smt042

Don't mind what roads, as all the routes you have suggested are excellent.

Idea for morning ride would be something like

I did the Crocketford to Ken Bridge hotel road a couple of weeks back and it was dreadful - covered in potholes, gravel and mud.

The state of our roads around here is really annoying me now, because they're potentially absolutely fabulous motorcycling roads.

The A712 is particularly bad at the moment. I spent a lot of time on those roads just last week. The A713 is not too bad but some parts of the A712 are a disgrace. Might actually go a wee potter through that direction today!

Dalveen pass end (Carronbridge to Elvanfoot) isn't too bad, there's a few nicely resurfaced bits on it, a few potholes to keep you on your toes but not that bad.

Not been up the lower part (Moniave to Thornhill) for a wee while but might take a pootle up over the weekend as it's only 10 mins from me.

Rode from Dalry to Thornhill on A702 today, first couple of miles out of Dalry are filthy with mud and gravel, started to think I had a puncture the back end was moving around that much! :smt101

Once away from the farm's and got to Corriedoo, the road was clean and could actually enjoy riding. Road was good to Moniaive but then it got a bit muddy again. On every corner there is a berm of gravel on the road between Moniaive and Thornhill.

Not too many potholes, just need a bit of rain to clean the road, can't believe i'm saying we need rain!
