My son was thinking of a 125 for the commute to Uni. Just done a quick check on Go Compare £600 TPFT with a £700 excess. Makes me glad I'm 44 with 10 years no claims

Yeah seems to be mainly MCE standard £500 excess now.

I did qoutes on thebikeinsurer recently and excesses ranged from £0 to £500... there was plenty in between those figures though... £250 compulsory still seemed to be the norm.

I'll be trying to stick with Carol Nash again when mine is due at the end of April. I've been with them for 3 years now and although they are not the cheapest, they offer the best package.

just looked on Carol Nash I was with them a while ago.. but found them not too good on a claim.. however they do "6 wheel insurance" combined for car and bike so I am giving them a call... see what comes up.. may cancel my other 2.

watch this space..

Incidentally my best car quote was with RAC who give a discount to new insurance customers if they take out RAC cover.. me been with RAC for years for breakdown but not insurance.. so rang breakdown as I have just paid my |£180 for family cover and they say yes we do a discount for insurance customers but for BRAND NEW bla bla bla.. I said Iam new to the insurance but they said not to the breakdown though..

where is the loyalty bonus?

anyway - watch this space for insurance lets see what carole nash say .. they promise £50 less at least

Quiff - I got a 6 wheel quote from them when I renewed the scooby insurance, it was at least £300 more expensive than anyone else. Still, your an old bugger with an old man's car and bike so it might work out cheaper for you.

How old is your son?
That is about £150 more than my TPFT on a 125. Try Lexham as they specialise in low caps and scooters.

Mine went down at the renwal to £456 from £650 (both with £650 excess), and thats declaring a shed load of mods so they can't wriggle out of anything if the worst does happen.

I've used go Compare for about 7 vehicles now and I've always got a cheaper policy than the lowest on the site so I'm not sure what I'm/You're doing different.

As soon as I hit the enter button for search the phone rings (and somethimes as soon as I've entered my telephone number!) and a very eager man on the phone wants to sign me up. I tell them to hang on until the seach completes and then tell them they are £50 more than my cheapest quote outside of Go Compare and they've always matched it. I managed to get £70 off my van insurance with them despite them already being way cheaper than anyone else. :) Not once have I had it go up from the quote on the screen.

We used compare sites when searching for cheaper than renewal on the landy. We got one that was 400 quid with all the stuff that we have with our insurance. When they went through all the details again over the phone, we'd entered all the answers already, including myself being a new driver, but on completion of the telephone call it had gone from the online quote of 400 quid to 1400 quid. They reckoned it was a software error and refused to budge. We called the next cheapest and they said the same.

Eventually we rang an independant, and he told us it was all down to me being a new driver, and he couldn't go any cheaper than what was on offer from our current insurer.

So it is a different scenario, as it includes a new driver. Its an absolute disgrace that we can have a new driver and someone with protected 5yrs NCB, on the old policy and the premium not budge when a test was passed, but at renewal it doubled. I wouldn;t mind but I have 6 years no claims on the bike....so I aren't exactly high risk.
