Textiles may not slide over the ground and flip you. Obviously at high speed this can lead to a lot of broken bones.

Leathers have better abrasion resistance but most of the time when you come off on the road, you wont go off sliding down the road for hundreds of meters. Usually you hit something, a curb, a car, a tree, something that will stop you or slow you down.

At the end of the day, both offer good protection, I think it comes down to which one is more convenient.

As above, in a real world road off you're at most serious risk from impact, so think armour. Stuff like Forcefield is good, and replacement items for most areas (shoulder/elbow/hip/knee etc) are available.

Many (most?) serious injuries on the road are chest/neck, yet very few riders wear any form of chest impact protector. How much they would reduce fatalities is debatable, likely to reduce severity of chest injury to some extent I suppose in the majority of survivable impacts.

Leather is probably the optimum, as said they need very good quality stitching to hold together.

Textiles are real-world practical, I have switched to textiles after many years in leather. Just far more convenient especially for touring, no need for separate waterproofs.

Other simple things are gloves that stay on and don't fall apart, hands get flailed around and are difficult to mend.

Ultimately you have to weigh up the pros and cons and decide what compromise you are happy with. The best protection will be a car, but that's not the point, is it? ;)

Just my 2p.

Is there any chance this will be decent enough to trust my life with? New leathers for 2nd hand money ( which is about all i have tbh )

Ok forget the last link, this looks amazing, and has impressive feedback, but is it too good to be true?

I would get a good quality SH one rather than a cheap new one.

I have an old Bike mag that did an abrasion test on leather and kevlar jeans and the higher the number the better they did. All kevlar jeans mesured under 0.9 where as the leathers reached as high as 4.2!! Nuff said really. also coming off at a fair rate of knots i'd bet the melted textiles would mix nicely into the chewed up burnt flesh just to make cleaning the wound that much more fun for the nurses!!

My problem apart from cost, is sizing also.
I measure differently in just about all areas, ie my chest needs XL, but it will be too long for me in arms and collar to waist. And my waist is a 36 so again, not an XL.

a made to measure suit or seperate jacket and trousers is what id need i reckon, but just thought id get some reaction to that made to measure suit from ebay. im a believer of the "if it looks too good to be true" mentality, however they have over 700 feedback, which is obviously quite reassuring!

If youre going to buy stuff online make sure you have tried something of that brand on before so that you know it fits your shape aswell.

I went to the NEC last year with every intention of buying an RST jacket, but when I tried then on they were all uncomfortable under the armpits. If I'd bought off eBay or something it would have been wasted money because if it's uncomfortable off the bike then it'll be a distraction on the bike.
