If it's not something you'll use much, and you don't need anything fancy, I'd take a chance on the cheapo one here. Has good reviews and the price is certainly right.

seconded got one.. goes through just about everything...

I still own a wolf 3/8" chuck single speed, metal case fry your b0llox off drill from the 1950s that I inherited from my dads box of dodgy tools. gutless unless you put a sixpence in the meter. But my god have the Wilkinsons got their moneys worth from that little piece of kraut technology.

LOL. That took me back 30 odd years to my Dad and Uncle roaring with laughter whenever this came on the telly. :)

I can also remember people doing the matchstick thing back in the days when nothing had a plug fitted.

you tube doesn't appear to work in my hotel room. let me guess it is about sticking something in the earth pin to open the shutters to let you stick the live/neutral wires in

That's the one. One of the safety films from the 70's with the outstanding acting.

I think it's all been said, but FWIW a neighbour of mine had an anonymous mid sized SDS breaker drill (6kg type, much like thus ) which he had abused to the extreme. He brought it to me because when he went to use it there was a big flash and it stopped, could I fix it?

Took the brush cover off and there was one spring in there, 2 short lengths of copper braid, but absolutely no sign of any carbon brushes.

It had no name but after a bit of searching I reckoned it was the same as a Power Craft generic thing, sold under a variety of brands (or none in this case), and got some brushes from here . I had to give the commutator a light skim to make it look something like tidy, and it worked perfectly.

Bottom line was that when taking it all apart, I was actually quite impressed with the build quality, mechanically it was well designed (copied?) and made and in excellent condition internally.

Having said that, I tend to use Makita or Bosch industrial stuff. Haven't broken any of them yet.
