When you can't get it into first, (with it running...), try momentarily release the clutch, then attempt to select 1st again.
(sometimes with the 'box stationary, the dog teeth are directly aligned and so can't slide to engage each other, this is normal. Apologies if this is teaching how to suck eggs) |

With the bike off, try shifting as you rock the bike backwards and forwards slightly, clutch out.
I do not believe you could do any damage snapping poxy bit of brittle alloy off. They snap all time and I have never seen real damage from it. |
