When I've had a bike with a tail tidy I've attached a reflector to the bottom of the number plate, either with a little bracket and some extra holes and bolts, or with a little glue. You can get red reflectors about the size of a 2p piece from bike shops or online that do the job and can just be stuck onto the plate itself.

If you think that's hard you should try fitting a tail tidy to a curvy :p
