It's difficult to tell without actually feeling them side-by-side but both Ian & I found (on both of our bikes) that they did get too hot! when up at full on the temperature gauge! We both had to turn them down to about half way to be comfortable!

No, I'm afraid not - they'll more than likely get colder! They are simply an element attached to a battery, just like an electric heater whereas a car heater takes it's heat from the engine so will get warmer as you drive further!

As a thought - did you get the right ones?
The K3 SV has alloy bars which act as a heat-sink so Oxford have made a set of uprated grips to deal with this... They come in a box that says on the front "Ideal for use with today's modern alloy bars," or something similar. They also come with a free hat in the box!

If you have been 'sold' the wrong ones  , I think the shop you bought them from, or Oxford Products will replace them for the right ones!

Well - it's gotta be worth a try at least!! :D

Nope - no hat. I haven't ridden home yet, so I'll post again after that, but it looks like I've got the wrong ones - FITTED!!!

****!! :(

As I say, you might get some joy out of either the place you bought them from, or from Oxford Products - who are aware of the the issue and aparrently the SV was a primary bike that caused them to make some different grips!

After all - you were given poor advice by the retailer! :D

Oxprod is a menber on here (as he has, or had an SV) and works for Oxford Products... It might be worth dropping him a line!?

Cheers for the advice. They were okay on the way home, but only just okay on full power. Mildly warm through the gloves is how I would describe them. I'll ring Oxford tomorrow and ask for advice. Shame Hein Gerricke didn't know that, but I'll try them as well if necessary.

A question: can I just swap the grips or do I need to rewire the electrics, too?

Now that, I'm afraid I don't know! I'm not sure what they changed on the modified grips - I'm sure Oxford will advise!

If they did actually advise you on the fact that they would work, then I would say that they were at fault... God knows how difficult it will be to remove the wrong grips & fit the correct ones so it may even be worthwhile seeing if they will do anything about that!! :?

I asked HG beforehand if they'd work, they said "aye" and proceeded to sell me old ones which don't work properly- but because I'd checked I had no problems switching them. Now, the store manager in HG Edinburgh then contacted Oxford after we'd settled our exchange, got the exact facts as to what'll work and won't work with ally bars, and then he contacted other branches to spread the word. I don't know how far that word went, but I heard them giving the correct advice to another SV owner last time I was in...

Well, I just spoke to Oxford, who confirmed what everyone is saying. They told me to get in touch with HG, which I did. HG professed ignorance of the issue and said they didn't have any of the latest ones in stock. The guy there promised to order me some new ones and ring me when they are in.

Do you know how much trouble I will have switching the grips over? Can I keep the electrics the same or will I have to replace those as well? I reckon I'll need to slice off the old grips?

Not sure how hard it'll be - probably a little more tricky than the original ones!

I would hazard a guess that the electrics will be the same, although I would check with Oxford if I were you!

At least they have admitted fault - i assume you are getting the new grips free of charge!? If so, that's a tick in HG's customer service box really... Even if they did balls up in the first place!!
