 its not very often you make money on a bike.
|
and the only ones you're likely to do it on are the learner legal ones. They cost far too much new for the time that most people will keep them so the second hand market is always thriving.
|
I had one which was 10 years old in 1988. It did 125 mpg. And it was a great little bike. I bought it for £140 and sold it 2 years later for £240 I passed my Part 2 test on it. And went on to a 1979 250 superdream which I bought for £75..
Remember I was a student, what great days.. It had a simple little overhead valve engine with pushrods. And was very easy to keep in good nick. I used to check the clearences and timing, and I once changed the Cylinder gasket. Which you can do in about half an hour. Easy-peasy.. |
On this talk of 125's i'm going to start a new thread.

It's worth checking the ignition timing.:!:
Had a CB100 in the early 80's, it's the overhead cam version with 25 cc less. Although the previous owner had it serviced by the dealer the points and timing were miles out. Made a big difference with correct settings. Cruising speed 56-58 mph, 105 mpg. Brilliant little bike, did about 10k miles on it. :D |
i'll have a look but i havent a clue what i'm doing, it seems to tick over abit slow?
|
I've just bought one of these for my missus to learn on. absolutely brilliant, it's bullet proof. We've alreayd gone through a couple of sts of indicators  but dsoesn't seem to mind falling over on it's side....
paid £400 for a 1990 with 14k on the clock, 12 motnhs mot and 12 month's tax. Still running on the firts tank of petrol we put in it three weeks ago  brilliant learner tool. Whatever you do don't be tempted to buy one of the new cheap asian import bikes popping up all voer the place, they say they are reliable with honda copy parts but the build quality is shocking! exhausts regularly snapping of etc. don't touch with a barge pole. |
I'm embarrassed to say that I bought one when I started to learn, brand new as couldn't find second hand, sold it 5 months later when I passed my test - for 1/2 the price I paid for it. So dumb!
Really should have kept that bike! |
its an iconic bike :D ,sorry to hear you lost loads tho :(
