Actually I'd be more than happy to bung in the JHS version of the Dynojet kit with the BMC RS Race filter without the use of a dyno. In fact, I did it a couple of years ago.

Yup, but that's not the DJ Stage 1 kit... That's what you end up with if you take the DJ kit and make it work. (plus, I think the stage 2 kit includes the stiffer springs and the #54 drill bit from the Stage 1&3 kit, you don't get those in the small one) No great shock that I ended up with more or less the same setup by improving the DJ stock 1&3 kit really. (though cheaper)

If I was starting over with a full system, I'd go straight to JHS, it's a great product that. Not sure though, does it cater for slipons? That's why I'd not mentioned it, I was under the impression it was designed for a full system.

Dynojet kits were originally intended to be fitted and setup on a dyno, giving the operator a larger amount of adjustability.
The settings in the kit are essentially 'Base' settings, but everyone buys a kit to go faster without having any understanding of what they're getting only that it 'Must' be better.

There is a kit for just about every bike on the market, more so they can cover all models than improve all of them and not all bike benefit from them, but they still sell because of what they are.
The same way everyone buys Ohlins springs over any other linear spring of the same weight with the same performance and quality.

True. But the DJ stge 1 in particular is, I think, misspecced, and if you do choose to interpret it as being a kit of parts for use with a dyno (ie, you discount the R&D cost) then it's absurdly expensive.

Basically, you get several jets that are ridiculously small, and a poor range of larger ones. I think the largest is 144 or 146, while the smallest is either 134 or 136. That's just daft. That's why my assumption is that it was specced out for the very early, restrictive K&N and never revised.

The gains to be had with a stage 1 kit are absolutely minimal. Basically you are making a small "tweak" to make the most of your K&N, or BMC, and aftermarkert exhaust. If you were expecting more, then you're going to be dissapointed and it will still need setting up for best results, either by a dyno shop or by yourself. You can do it yourself if you have heaps of patience and a backside that's reasonably sensative to changes, but I can't over emphasise the need for patience - my carbs have been on and off so many times :!: If you want something you really can notice a difference with, then go for a stage 2 kit from JHS or Factory Pro that uses the BMC RS race filter; the increase in midrange is excellent.

The Dynojet needles are good, that's the only bit I'd buy, other than that jets are cheaper elsewhere.
