I've done the GSXR frontend conversion and got:

-Better stability in high-speed cornering
-Better brakes
-Better stability when braking hard
-Looks/Bling effect (nothing wrong with that  )

Yes the gsxr front end bolts right on to the pointy SV, everything works except speedo.

Mine ended up relatively expensive, but I also went for the newer forks with radial brakes and also I've kept all original parts.

Have done some more research, and I think it's a realistic option. Really just a question of obtaining the right parts.

Will hold a few more conversations in the meantime I think. For those who've done this, please keep posting as many comments as you can think of :D

Thank you!

If you go for the 600 or 750 K4 or K5 forks and yokes they go straight into the bike. Job done. Just need to add a speedo drive like the one from SV race shop.

I have been racing with this conversion done on mine since the start of the year. The bike now has awesome brakes - will stoppie if provoked to do so (cost me 3rd place but that was my fault!) and you can actually get a real feel for what the front is doing mid corner. I am very very happy with it.

TBH the std front end if set up correctly is very good but i changed it for the following reasons:

Lighter than stock front end
Forks and yokes are stronger and less likely to bend in a crash (mine is a race bike)
Brakes - better feel and more able to cope with hard use
Better adjustment range - have now been revalved with 20mm Ohlins kit but still alot easier to adjust than taking the fork apart.

I have my spare set for sale if your interested drop me a Pm - am going to put it up on here for sale and ebay once i have taken piccies. Selling as no need to have them as spares and need the dosh!.

My advice:

Buy GSXR front end.
Buy a SMIDSYed GSXR with destroyed front end.
Put front end on damaged bike, throw SV away.

Jobs a gooden 8)

But seriously, I think Joes right, you'll have to buy a custom top yoke and headlight bracket to make it work.

What ever you do, it isnt going to be cheap.

Easy to do. My team mate has done this conversion to his naked SV race bike for thunderbikes. Has had risers fitted to the top yoke by drilling and then welding them into place, fitted some sexy fat bars and off he rode!

Ah, but how long would it be laid up while you do it? :) FWIW, I love mine and wouldn't go back. I rode a standard one last week, I'd slightly lost sight of how much of an upgrade I'd got :)

I guess that depends on the planning doesn't it. Assuming all the parts and tools were available, you could do this in an afternoon.

Swings and roundabouts really... I don't intend having the bike off the road for a huge amount of time. I'm happy to be patient about it.

Oh that had no planning and preparation at all... it just sort of happened!

I did 90% of mine myself and i have limited technical abilities when it comes to hands on stuff. Steve showed me what tools i needed and in what order to tackle the job. Took me about 2 hours to do.

I didnt do the switch gear routing as had to wire the stop switch as the ignition as its for racing so junked the ignition switch completly. Steve did the braided lines as i wasnt confident in doing that myself.

Overall have been more than pleased with it.
