I've made no secret of it before on the forum that I used to earn money (and serious money at that), by breaking security on computers. However, I hasten to add, that this was done legally, and under the premise of at least advising steps they could take to improve things. Be that home users, businesses (eg, solicitors were always ready to pay out big once they knew all client information was readily available) or anyone that I could show my *ahem* talents to.

I've also said before on the forum that I can make directional antenna's out of a number of things that are in your kitchen right now, and that my Ford Galaxy is wired for Wifi :)

Being Linksys routers they WILL run openWRT

So get the free router then smack it over the head and while its unconsious, open it up and stiff the open source alternative OS into it :)

Personally I would (and did) go out and spend £70 on a decent router, free does not usually equal good....

I don't think the new WRT54G will, they changed the internals from v.5 (IIRC) onwards and those are running some sort of VxWorks from the factory, I don't know if you can convince them to use anything but that. On the other hand, WRT54GL will run open source like a charm :-dd
