deffo commute by bike - far more reliable than the public transport or sitting in the car for hours.

As far as security goes, check out what space is available at work and park it off the street if at all possible, and out of sight. It's more likely to get damaged than nicked if left anywhere public. Obvious security and a cover won't go amiss either. You can check out the local parking restrictions via the local authority websites.

I been commuting into central london for 9 months now without any issues...and I get to see all the sights every day (New Cross, Old Kent Road etc...lovely!). Did feel abit like a crash course for the first month but you get used to it and it doesn't half make you a more aware rider!!!

Parking is another story...I have parking in a company carpark for which I am eternally grateful!! When you see the gaps some of those mopeds get into in the bike bays it's scary :smt120

Trying to get around by car in London is a NIGHTMARE, you would not believe how long a mile can take- especially if you're used to a bike. If you're in the market for a new one get one with sat nav, cheap bumpers, anti flash number plates, parking beepers and a dvd player, decent sterio or book holder for the hours you'll be spending in queues. You'll also need to sell your bike to pay for all the parking/traffic light/bus lane/speeding fines. My first 2 years cost me £400 and I was trying to be good!

The guys are right there's no easier way round london than a bike- no congestion charge, free parking, no queues. It's just......I'm scared now!:smt120

Give it a go, take it easy and be paranoid, I've been commuting into central london for years now and been quite happy with it.

Well it is over folks.. Nothing to see here.

Bike is on the FOR SALE section. spoke to the missus and to my boss and I just dont feel comfortable with doing it and I need a new car (mine is a 1.1 petrol) and I have just bought a 1.5DCi megane to replace it. So bike is up to pay for the new car

I'm assuming that your employer has parking available for you?

Parking in Golders Green is horrific - lots of controlled parking zones for residents, and the areas that are unrestricted fill up very quickly (bear in mind that Golders Green has a large bus/coach station, so you get a lot of 'park and riders').

Add to this the car park that is the end of the M1 during morning rush hour, and I strongly think you may regret your decision.

I'm afraid you may well be switching to public transport or be looking for another bike within a couple of months.
