Re: To all you knee down experts
This is how I do it, right or wrong, its my way:
Body position. Exaggerate hanging off, I mean you should really be hanging off. Lets say you're doing a right hander, you should be hanging off to your right so much that your left upper leg is what is across the seat, your knee joint should be locked over the seat and only half of one **** cheek is on the seat. Your left elbow should be touching the left side of the tank locking you into position. You should be 'kissing' your right mirror amd looking deep into the corner, I usually look to the apex/vp while also being mindful of the surface with quick glances to the road closer ahead. Speed. You need to get your corner speed up. If your hanging off as much as above then your bike is much more upright than if you were sat normally on the bike. This means that the surface area of your tyre contact patch is greater, so you can give it much more juice through and out of the bend. Just make sure you are in the correct gear and speed entering the bend and give it smooth inputs, jerking the throttle when hanging off is not a good idea (also changing gear when hanging off can be tricky but not impossible). That's about all I can say really. Hope it helps. |
Re: To all you knee down experts
Without seeing you in action it is impossible to say ... can you get a mate to photo (or better still film) you in action?
With a simple photo/video it'll be so much easier to diagnose ;) Here's a good tip ... 'double up' on you kneesliders ... if you are a gnats away, then that'll give you the extra inch you need ... after that everything will become clear and you can soon take it off again ;) p.s. generally speaking kneedown on the road at anything other than a roundabout takes major commitment ... if you are going that fast on an open corner to get your kneedown, there is little room for error and you should be thinking about where you are going, not where your knees is ;) ... I'd start off on a deserted roundabout if I were you ...:thumright: |

In my case being 6 foot 1 helped me. 1st time I got the knee down I wasn't even thinking about it. I was just hanging off then I felt the buzz when the slider touched then my 1st reaction was to draw my knee up. Incidentally the strips on my 2cts were a good inch wide at th time. Last time I get the knee down - I got the elbow and toe down as well - on account of being dragged along with the bike - ouch! Maybe you're just trying too hard. |

Re: To all you knee down experts
Pilot sports...all the way to the edge...I'm impressed dude. Big lean angles onn those babies.
I have 5 inches on you so that's a big difference. I have a suspicion that you might be twistng your body or your feet are flat on the pegs. My mate mike is 6''2 and he couldn't get the knee down. I followed him and could see that he wasn't positioning is feet properly. After that...feet on the ends of the pegs....knee down 1st time. he hasn't done it since. Like someone said earlier try and get a video of yourself. |
