Re: Gear problems...maybe the rider

Following on from the original problem, I've done an oil and filter change using Motul 5100 (the HG special offer stuff), it's better than it was but its still very clunky both going up and down the box. On occasions (a couple times a day) when I change from 1st to 2nd I hit neutral which is a pain in the **** if I'm trying to make progress. I've noticed that it gets better if I keep the revs higher, has this got anything to do with it?

Any help appreciated,:D

Its not just the oil its the leve of the oil, to much really does make for a b*stard gear change, if you dont believe me ask Liz when you see her next, I've over filled her bike a couple of times...

Whats your change tension like ? I found the SV sensitive to a to slack chain so that might be worth looking at.

Failing that if your confident your clutch is adjusted properly, then the only other thing to do would be pop the gear lever off and clean and grease the linkage and the shaft the gear lever revolves around. Do a search for a post by Sid Squid as you need to be careful with the fibre washer and I cant remember the exact thing you need to do with it.

As said check the chain, but not just for slackness but for tight spots, these are a bitch they can nacker gear changes, my mate had similar problems (on a VFR750... but still) so he changed the sprockets and chain and its pretty much fixed :D

Cheers for the help. Chain is adjusted properly, oil level is just on the F (with bike upright on level ground), clutch is adjusted properly; looks like I'll have to take the thing apart and have a re-grease! C&S are around 2000 miles old so would think they're OK but will have a check for tight spots.

Fizz - I hear is party time round yours?!:D

Two week THING, take an interest man!!!;) Nope, I'm still a recruit so don't have to go on it, I've got one early next yr. She asked me to remind you to do the decorating while she's away ;), there will be an inspection upon her return!

Oh yeah and you've got to fix her puncture and clean the bikes too.
