Worth trying for an MOT first maybe.
My bike got one with no identifier and a ghosted image. Legal size lettering and plate though. |

Halfords can only sell road legal plates. They will have the Halfords logo and postcode on them but it's probably not very easy to read. I guarantee it will be on there.

Can you not just fit a sticker to the plate with their details on?? Or does it have to physically be part of the plate?
Failing that apply transfers before MOT time and they'll look like part of the plate? |

surely a pass or fail mot depends on where you take your bike and the discretion of the tester.

I used to work for halfords and we never asked for V5 when making the plates up, must have changed the rules since
