Gutted, so so gutted. The guy was a breathe of fresh air, the new guy on the block ruffling feathers and not afraid to race. He looked so gangly on the bike, trying to hide behind the windshield, yet managing to get up there and fight with the best. I truely believe he would have been world champion soon enough.

I've never been that fussed when celebs etc have died in the past, but I guess being a GP fan and getting my licence in March, you can't help but feel a connection. I just want to wind the clock back.

I've just got my bike back up and running 5 mins ago but I feel half hearted about going out on it. Yet it's probably the best thing I could do.

Such a sad loss. Rest in peace 58.

Even my Wife is gutted!! She didn't let on but she'd been secretly been following Marco whilst I'd been watching over the year.

She was well happy when he got second last weekend.

Such a shame. You could sense he was on to something great.

RIP 2 "racers" in the last week.. shame ..

Thought to families etc ..

I know it is a dangerous sport and you expect it and go into it knowing the possibilities.. but it seemed such a nothing "off" initially then it hit you what was happening in front of your eyes with the bikes behind and his helmet off. Thought to Rossi and Edwards too

Didn't see the accident in full, just clicked onto BBC as the medics were treating him and totally stunned when I caught up with the news, totally totally stunned.

The grid will be a much less entertaining place without you there big man, you had character, you had soul and most of all passion. RIP Big man:(

Dad asked me if there was any news when I was sitting upstairs watching Moto2 on Eurosport and I knew that because he'd actually come to ask it must have been bad. I always watch Eurosport where possible and heard Toby Moody's announcement. Saw the footage after that and it is horrific.

Agree with lots of the comments above. A tragic loss of a young, true racer who was a breath of fresh air and my thoughts are with his family, friends and collegues.

RIP Marco

Had to post agian, just finished catching up with the Philip Island race. It was strange hearing all the chat about Marco and the next season. It's a huge loss to MotoGP, absolutely gutted.

Just watched the race and a little obituary video the BBC have put together. Feel really ill thinking about it and think the grids going to be massively void for the next few years at least. RIP Marco Simoncelli.

Owenski 23-10-11 10:24 PM

Not really a Fan of the racing but morbidly made an effort to view the incident after speaking with Tom who told me the riders lid came off which I found astonishing.
Having seen it now all I can say is thank f**k the poor bugger knew nothing about it.
RIP
