Most dangerous manoeuvre I saw on the commute to work today? 5 series Beemer doing a spectacularly stupid overtake round a blind bend on an A road.

Of course, I'm sure this was a completely isolated incident and I wasn't expecting it at all when I saw the bmw badge/grill in my mirror.

*throws petrol on the fire* :-dd ;)

I think it comes down to the type of person who aspires to a BM not having a great deal of imagination. The fact that they are bland, vastly over priced and not as well built as most Japanese cars, but still sell in their thousands says a lot about the British Car buying public....................Sheep!

Saw a 6-Series convertible today

UGLY AS FSCK!!!!!

Slab-sided, ill proportioned and thats just the 1st impression.

Funny thing is I think the hard-top version is ok.

Might I ask you, Steve H, what in your learned opinion should the discerning buyer be driving and what, if any, car do you drive?

Go on, crack me up.

I wouldnt call an M3 or and M5 bland. 6 series BMW is ugly, but its ugly in a good way.

I'd agree that some people buy a BMW because they think its cool. As for driving like tw*ts well most car drivers do that IMHO.

I prefer the 318 over a 6

the 318 is a high reving motor and much ligher weight than the 6s they are more balanced and handle better .. and just like the underpowered SV, I think you can get thru the twisties quicker with the little engine

the M3s are still 4s afik

the 6s are more suited to the 5 series imho

you'd be right if it was 1990  however around e46 time the 318i became a 2.0l, imo because it was underpowered! the e30 318i for instance only had 115hp, even the 318iS only had 136hp.
you never hear people really pushing the e30 4 pot over the 6, but in your case you must be talking about either the m10 (modded!!! this was the basis of the 1500hp turbo f1 engines they had) or the m42 iS engine because the m40 just isn't very good, each to their own though.

definitely agree that the iS is slightly better on the handling, but then it comes with the mtech suspension, etc, and slightly better weight distribution iirc due to the 4 pot.

m3's haven't been 4 pots since the e30 - the e36 non evo and evo were both 6's.

:)

yes, I'm still living in a world of E30s, my son's 318 has the M42 motor and my old E21 had the M10 motor in 1.8 size, the early years of the E21 has the 2.0 version of the M10

Me too, still running an E30 320i Touring

I don't believ that the badge on the front makes any difference. A TwŁt of driver will still be a TwŁt whatever car they drive.

i'm very surprised at this comment, it's one thing they're well known for, and afaik it hasn't changed over the years.

It has changed quite a bit recently. German cars were always renowned for their build quality and reliability. This is still generally the case, however lots of 'lesser' priced cars have caught up and in the case of Japanese, generally bettered the Germans. Please take a look at any car manufacturing build and reliability surveys within the last five years and I am sure you will see the German manufacturers slipping somewhat. Mercedes being a case in point.

Im saying nothing on this subject...............

All I will say is that the majority of BMW, and Mercades owners are the same type of people.... (usually, as im not branding)...
