Re: Vintage film cameras

Am biting the financial bullet and stopping by Harrow Technical later this week to drop off an SLR lens that I can't fix. I also took the back element out of my Zeiss Contessa and it's more hazy than I thought, am hoping they can restore it as the shots from the last film (on flickr) could be a lot better. I shone a torch through it after taking the lens out and the difference is immense - there are still two bits of glass in there but they are crystal clear. And finally I broke the battery connection off the baseplate of my Pentax MX so am hoping they can solder it back on, otherwise I'll have to try glue and painting over it with the stuff you use for car rear window heater repairs to make the connection again.

I nearly bought another MX to sell on as I found it on ebay, really bad advert, but going for 99p, less than a day left and no bids. Put a tenner on it and in 20mins (late on a Friday night) it was suddenly bid on again. Private listing etc. , looked very suspect. Shame as I could have made a good few quid on that!

I picked up this beast from a charity shop for a tenner. Guy said it should fit older Canon. Turns out it is a Vivitar TX mount with a Miranda mount. Mounts for M42, Canon etc are on ebay for £24 upwards. Cheaper to buy a Miranda SLR.

Might be better to sell it on, is it worth much?

Well there is a Miranda on ebay for 12 plus post. May chuck it in the camera box for future use.

I have a roll of Ilfprd HP5. What do I load it in? The Zenit? The 72E (half frame, so 72 shots) first world problems!

Sorry been away for a bit. What did you do in the end? I've been trying to sort out the hazy lens and I think the glass is etched - nothing touches it, and believe me I have a few things to try on it. So have put a bid on the non-rangefinder model on Ebay and hopefully make a good one cheaply it comes with a case that could be sold to cover the cost of it all. A couple of cheap Olympus XAs and a Canonet 28 also catching my eye but am thinking about it.

Not loaded the hp 5 yet. Picked up a mid forties Ensign Ful Vue 2 from the bootsale today. Still had a film in it. Got some films processed from a trip to London. Still more to scan in.

The Canonet is a nice camera. Bigger than you think. Decided that I will shoot black and white 120 from now on so I can process it myself to keep costs down. Oh yeah, and I bought a Franka Super Frankarette rangefinder.

Mmmm saw one of those on my many hours of pointlessly trawling ebay. I nearly also bid on a Pentax S1a with a meter but I think it was in worse nick than claimed.
