we in the forces have been told we have a pay freeze for 2 years, and its for all public sector, the only ones that arent having their wages froze are those below 21k who should expect a min of 250 pay rise

BTW the pay cut seems to be part of an ongoing re evaluation which she should have been consulted about,and her job should have been evaluated by a panel qualified to do so.That may have been done as a group rather than individually but she should have known something about it,and have a right of appeal if she can show evidence that it is wrong.

thats sounds like a single status procedure designed to remove inequalities in pay in the workplace and cut the number of equal pay claims. it biased and invariable wrong and the appeals are often held by panesl that include displaced management. - not very independent

I feel for you - we've got the same our department through restructure and budget cuts has been cut from 122 to 4 people. the rest of us are still waiting to get the letter to say thanks but no thanks. but hey I don't expect any different and Tim our pay is nowhere near the same as private - unless you are up at head/director level. I deal with a budget of over £150k and the dustmen get paid more than me.

If there is a definite need for cuts, and it may well be the case in an effort to recover from the recession, I'd have thought a sliding scale would be fairer, i.e. 10% up to say 25% depending on salary.

That said, if this is purely to salvage the economy I'd rather see it as a tax increase so that everyone contributes towards the recovery.

But we can't have it both ways, i.e. the Govt rides in and saves the world won't come as a freebie. We've got to pay for that recovery.

I'm sure there are others worse off (redundancies) but that's just insane! We'll be generally OK with a bit of belt tightening, but it will likely scupper plans to start a family any time soon.

Perhaps being a bit harsh - but having been made redundant twice in the last 6 months, 25% cut is better than 100% cut.

Thats what its gonna come down to- you either take a major paycut and still have a wage coming in or you lose your job and end up with nowt- gonna see more and more of this happening -really feel for people in this situation:(

BTW, I'm a senior manager in a Whitehall department, and my pay's been frozen.
