Good point. I hadn't noticed that he's getting married next June. Probably not the best time to visit NZ.

Thanks for the replies, some useful thoughts.

New Zealand is too far and expensive.

Northern Cyprus and Malta could be excellent suggetions if we stick short haul. Is there much to do in either location?
