Well the 998 is a whole different ball game Dave. That had the new engine as later fitted to the 999. The standard one had 123 bhp (996 is 112) but the 'S' version is 136. Quite a big difference. They tend to go for a least a grand more than a 996Bip.

Ah, sorry I meant the 996. So many numbers, get's confusing! Even for me, captain numbers.

No I didn't test ride a 748 or 996. Reportedly the 748 suffers the same 'under torqued' aliment that the 749 has. Remember though it is being compared to its bigger brothers which in terms of torque and delivery is monsterous. Ill try and find the dyno sheet of a 996 compared to a 749S.

Here ya go. Notice how the 996's torque is monstrous from a lot lower down in the rev range.

The 749S doesn't really come in til nearly 5000rpm.

Oh yes indeed.

Just you need to make sure you are in a financial position to up keep the bike. The services are essential and must be done properly and thus you must pay for it.

There's a point, I hadn't massively factored in servicing costs within my magical dream world of affording a ducati. My main concern was insurance; the inital outlay and if I can actually afford to claim if needs be. I would like to be able to do all the servicing myself, are special tools/expensive parts required?
I'm a while off being able to get one but just like to have something to aim for...

lol you have to stop tempting me...

The parents would go mental, and it would be heresy to have one restricted. In late june-july, you are allowed these kinds of threads again lol

Pete (and other ducati folk),

Do you know much about the Monster S4R? What do you reckon to them? I'm probably going to see one this week
