Re: Riding to work
We're expected to try and get to work or report to our local stations if no trains are running to help out there

Re: Riding to work
Tricky one as you are agency, i dont know the rules or the terms of your posting/contract, however if the buses are not running and your bike has a puncture and the police are advising people to stay at home, ask your boss for an email telling you to ignore safety warnings and get to work or loose your job or you will take safety advice and stay home.
Workplace bullying does count even in an agency, i'm sure thats worth something at the tribunal. |
Re: Riding to work
Bike's not got a puncture i just dont want to ride in snow/ice. its outside cover in snow and not moving tonight and maybe not tomorrow because i dont like riding in this weather.

The problem with agencies is that work simply becomes unavailable if someone gets on the wrong side of them. |
Re: Riding to work
That's a tricky situation, and I hope you're able to resolve it with your job intact!
As a manager I'm happy to cut people slack in bad weather, especially if they can potentially work from home, as long as they're not the kind of people who take the pee. However it's easier in my line of work because it's not 'operational' - harder if you have trucks to load, a shop to open, etc Really if you can in any way get in you should, even if it takes a lot longer than usual. But if you can't then you can't! I'd suggest collecting as much evidence as possible - photos, printouts from web about road closures, public transport closures, etc |

Re: Riding to work
I use a bike to get to work, but I accept that trying to use a bike all year isn't always possible ....
I assume you run a bike because its cheaper than a car ?? Well IMO you're going to occasionally use these savings to pay for a taxi, or hire car, etc IF it means getting to work ..... If I can't use the bike I get the train, bus, hire car, borrow a car ... etc ... I can't just decide not to turn in to work because I haven't got adequate transport ... Sorry if its harsh, and sorry you feel hard done by .... but sometimes in life you have to look at the bigger picture ..... You did the right thing not riding the bike, and they were a little blunt with you .. but its your problem not theirs ...... |
