expensive!! your'e not keeping marine fish are you newts?, now they can be expensive. I hope you cleaned out the tank first befor filling it anything can have got into it and you can loose fish for months untill you decide to strip it all down and clean it out. last time i set one up i put a bit of fish food in every day then after a week start adding a couple of fish at a time ie every couple of weeks, hth.

Thanks everyone for the advice, i am sure i will get to grips with it by trail and error :)

It's a tropical tank there's no way i would try to keep a marine tank at my first attempt at keeping fish

Here are a few photo's (not the best pics, but you will get the idea)

I have put some Black Neon Tetra's and some Tiger Barbs in, as i have read that these are "hardy" fish and will help to get the cycle started in the tank.

When you're picking your fish, think about top, middle and bottom swimmers, so they're not all fighting for the same space. Don't introduce too many from different places too quickly - it's a sure fired way of getting white spot.

And dont add anything with long fins now that you have put tiger barbs in there as they like to nip at long fins ;)

I've always fancied doing a tiger barb species tank...

The Juwel tanks eat the White polishing filters so get plenty in. They reckon a week, but in reality its about 4 days. You can rinse them to get an extra day or so. Also watch when you do filter changes that you dont knock the temprature dial ontop of the heater. If you are going to put in air blocks, then do this before you fill with water and use aquairum silicone to set them on the base of the tank. Also the lighting ballast went on our tank just after a year, so keep the reciept somewhere safe. Other than that, what the other lot said. I miss our tank :(

I Get the crystal clear (if that's what it's called) flat sheets of filter wool and cut it to size for my Jewel. Does the job and cheaper than buying the OEM stuff. As Vinyl says you go through a lot.

Our balast went, there are botch jobs you can do on the web, but electric and water and botch jobs don't mix too well. I think they are about £90 for the size of tank you have.

Im liking the flood lighting in Neon Blue!
Some advice I've learnt over the last few years of keeping tropics.
Someone just said it but your barbs are "fin nippers" so no large fin fish when you've got those fella's in.
You've got neons so you cant have angel fish,
Get your self a plec and some shrimp these clean the tank of it Algee, best getting them in earlier rather than later to prevent too much build up.
Chuck them in a big of Cucumber/Potato every now and then the plecs love it.
Buy yourself a red tail shark and a silver shark they look mint together it may take a few attempts to get a pair which survive though.
Clown loaches are good cleaner fish and grow quite fast.
The more air bubbles you put in the tank the clearer your water will stay. (some science there but its a fact). Note bubbles tend to make noise so this is a down side.
You dont NEED real plants (they only get nibbled at and float around) provided you have plenty of air bubbles.
If you still find your getting a build up of algee despite plenty of cleaner fish been present then get your self a UV filter. It goes between your clean water filter feed and your tank and it kills all the algee in the water.
Get onto the intenert regarding which fish you want and which you can have living together without worryin.
and finally NEVER EVER EVER BUY KRIBENSIS!
