Does it run OK? If yes then stop worrying as the soot is not excessive.

Seal the exhaust if you can be bothered, it's not doing any harm - unless it's offending your aesthetic sensibilities like it would some of the OCD cleaning obsessives we have on this forum*.

Back pressure - I think** there is some confusion in this thread about what this means, (YC alluded to this), it is not responsible for the sootiness of your exhaust and in this circumstance it is not a concern.

Back pressure is when you need to fart and when you do, your buttocks lift of the seat slightly. Thats back pressure. Glad I could help.
