My Dad is a very difficult man to upset, suffice to say the scene was unpleasant.

This thread simply my effort to let some good come out of it in maybe reminding folk on here to pay a bit more attention and so avoid being crushed to death.

Let me clarify. I'm sorry your dad was upset; it's never a nice thing to be a witness to something like that. I hope he can come to terms with what he has seen. I can understand your distress on behalf of your dad.

I perhaps was being a little more sarcastic than warrented about a raft of other people putting three letters on such a post when it really is nothing very close to them. It seems a shallow and not well thought out response to what is undoubtedly a tragedy to those who knew and loved the person who died.

I see it as a sign of acknowledgement.

Not wanting to trivialise what is undoubtably a tragedy for some family somewhere, but I can't get upset about someone I never knew dying. This is why you'll never see me post about some random biker getting killed, and you'll never see me adding RIP to a thread about the same.

If I never knew them, I can't say whether or not I'm sorry they died, because there are plenty of people out there I'd be singing and dancing about should it happen to them. The fallen biker could have been a rapist, a serial criminal or any manner of scrote who didn't deserve to share this planet with the decent folk. Unless I knew them I won't comment.

Cant see what the problem is tbh, we're all bikers, we are just acknowledging a sad way for a fellow biker to go.
If somebody doesnt wanna contribute to the RIP' s why bother looking at the threads in the first place?

Show of respect thats the way i see it.
I didnt know hovis or carternd but still wanted to post some respect to them.

If i dont like a thread i just dont go there.

The only reason I read this thread was because I saw that Messie had responded, and knew it wouldn't be to add any RIPs to it. Not that I think Messie is a heartless person, but more that she's a thinker not a reactionary and would think along the same lines as me with this kind of thing.

I can only ever show respect to those who've earned it, so those I don't know, never heard of and never had dealings with don't come into that category. I'd had online dealings with Neil and thought he was a decent sort, I'd met Hovis at AR09 and he was ok, therefore I posted in response to their RIP threads, but that's it, only for those I knew.

Now please Lozzo, this has got to stop. That's at least twice we've agreed in the last week! I thought I said it was a brief aberration.

No, I'm not heartless at all. I've had my share of heartache. But I do very much believe that people's expressions of emotion at such times need to be genuine, heartfelt and relevant. If a bunch of strangers typed something on a forum about a tradegy involving someone I loved without really knowing and understanding that person, I'm not sure I would find it comforting. Therefore that's why I tried to clarify that I hoped YC's dad would come to terms with things. Sorry, I'm probably digging a bigger hole for myself here

My post wasnt directed at you lozzo or messie, just a general response.
I just hate hearing of yet another biker killed so i just show a little respect in rip post and feel relieved in a selfish way it wasnt someone i know personally.
