Wow,

The roads up there are amazing! Will definately be paying another visit.

IMO best roads we did were:

4- A87 from Loch Cluanie to Eilean Donan Castle
3- A road I can't find a number for, but it's the road to Applecross over Bealach Na Ba.
2- A896 single track parts.
1- B862 from Inverness to Fort Augustus (discovered completely by accident when we took a wrong turn heading to Aviemore)

Not to do the A939 via Tomintoul would be criminal when you are going straightpast. Turn left after Braemar, ride until you hit a big T junction at Speybridge (after a long straight downhill), then turn around and ride back to Braemar, and continue your planned route.

Did the bit from Tomintoul down to Braemar. If I am remembering it rightly that was the bit just after one of the ski-lift stations that goes along a ridge. Funniest thing in the world watching the 3 bikes in front of you leaning at 30 degrees all the way along a dead straight road just to fight against the wind.:p

I was leading a rideout up there one day with about 12 or 13 bikes if I remember correctly. I was way ahead so I stopped at the top of the hill to wait (that's a linky). It was gale force wind and sideways rain. I laughed my head off watching this string of headlights come up the hill bobbing left and right and up and down. It was like a string of christmas tree lights that had been hung up outside on a windy night.

What is this change of which you speak? I'd say it was pretty consistently carp!
