Re: Pointless ironing...

Ironing, don't know much about it as I am married.

Still back in the 60s, my father used to iron his money, 10 bob notes, quids fivers etc. Just to make it look like it had come straight from the bank when he went out. He also used to take out his flat shoe laces and iron them to make it like his shoes were new. We had to polish our shoes each evening so they always looked perfect. I guess that was a left over from his army days. However as shoes/hands were inspected each morning on the way into school it did us no harm. My own kids went up the wall when I polished their shoes and I thought I was doing them a favour.

Back to ironing. Dad did try nylon shirts that you "drip dried" and needed no ironing. Thank god those went out of use a long time ago.

Re: Pointless ironing...

Mr LPH does his own ironing. He now knows how to use a washing machine, dishwasher and vacuum cleaner, although the application of Flash bathroom and a cloth upon porcelain still doesn't register in his conciousness.

He claimed that the domestic appliances were 'too complicated' when we first moved in together. The subsequent conversation went along the lines of:

Me, pointing to his Playstation: How many buttons does that controller have?

Mr LPH: About 14

Me: How many special moves have you managed to learn in Tekken 3 by pushing a sequence of buttons?

Mr LPH: Oh loads, I've got really good at it!

Me: Excellent. In that case you'll have no problem learning how to use the washing machine, dishwasher and vacuum cleaner as they only have 2 buttons each and one of those is the on/off switch!

Men that don't do their fair share of the house work when both people work really **** me off.
I see a lot of my friends parents in this situation where they've both been to work all day and the blokes don't bother lifting a finger once home.
My dad goes to work about 7:30am and slogs his guts out, comes home about 6pm and then does the ironing and helps with making food, does MORE work until about 10pm etc and sorts all the washing before he goes to bed. He'll do that 5 days a week and then still normally go to work on a saturday morning, and then do more work at home on a saturday night after spending the afternoon with my mum or doing my jobs around the house. I think I have a good role model :)

Only problem with that is when you are getting used to it to you may inadvertently iron a couple of yer fancy new tunics and end up with a hole in yer keks

Deep down I try. I do lack motivation often though.
The more I mature the more so I seem to improve.

I have to do house repairs, appliance repairs, keep 4 vehicles on the road, fix the kids bikes and scooters. I have plenty to do without doing the ironing. Anyway, that's the au pairs job. ;)

I'll run the hoover around the house once in a while and do the washing up. I even help with preparation of cooked meals. But as much as Lisa tries to tell me I can cook, I assure her I can't. :)

I'll do my fair share of the housework, when my wife does her fair share of gardening, cleaning cars, emptying trash and DIY & maintenance.

There's blue jobs and pink jobs in our house. I help with the pink jobs, but I by no means do 50%, but if we both agree that we are doing about 50% of the overall workload the family requires, then where is the problem?
