Are you sure that is right? I think that is 06 shock he has which is soft and it is 04-05 one which is correct.
Both are gold but earlier one has much yellower light gold colour, like ohlins gold rather than dark bronzey colour.

Don't expect to pay much more than £60...in fact I paid £35 for mine.

As an equally good alternative you can look at GSXR shocks too. Ill try n find the table for you so you can take a look yourself. Gives you more options. GSXR shock are easier to come by and cheaper.

Heres the table:

03/04 GSXR 1000 shock I think is the best suited.

It is correct, chandler is asking about a shock replacement for a pointy. Which means the 06 is correct for pointy.

Judging from the pics I can't tell the difference in colour? The one in this thread looks the same as my old one apart from the angle of the res.

For pointy? I would go for late model ZX6R triple clicker one, length is spot on, spring rate is fine for most people.
Best matched shock for any donor/recipient combo IMO.

There is two versions of the 06-07 shock
The lightish gold shock is an earlier one and there is a black one with the silver spring is the same shock.

The 06-07 shock res is a almost horizontal (to the shock body).

So would a 2007 black/silver ZX6 shock be good on a pointy?

it's longer than a stock pointy shock, so will raise the back a tad. the spring is heavier too and that's probably a plus. the reservoir will foul with the battery.

in terms of shape, the 06-07 zx10r shock is a good choice for a pointy as you don't need to touch the
battery box - as i'm sure you've read on svrider. on the downside, the spring is not very much harder.

you could follow berlin's example and get a 06-07 10r shock + a used curvy spring. shouldn't cost too much..

Word of warning for anyone thinking about trying it.
Make sure you have a proper set of spring pullers as it can become dangerous.

Also to save stripping another shock, ktech and others do heavier springs that would fit the shock!

Re: Fitting a ZX10 06 shock to a Curvy

If you have fitted the spring collar back to front, how is it locating the spring? I tried to do this on my dads curvy and gave up as the yellow curvy spring is simply too small a diameter to fit without this kind of bodgery; you can't even fit the plastic collar to protect the piston rod and seals. I picked up a later ZX10R shock very cheap and used the 510lb spring on the curvy, and fitted the 465lb spring to the ZZR1400 shock on my pointy.

The ZX10R shock would do well with your weight but make sure you buy the right year. 06-07 is right but 04-05 is wrong. You can identify them by the angle resivour on the shock. If it is 90 degrees from the shock you have the correct 06-07 shock if it is more a 45 degree upwards angle that's too old. Both shocks are gold with a red spring.

Not always, you can get ZX10R shocks from the same year with the 90 degree reservoir that have plated sliver springs on a black coloured body.

The ZZR1400 shock is better fit if you don't want to raise the rear on a pointy, it's exactly the same length as the OEM shock. However, the spring rate is 540 lbs, probably too high for most people unless afflicted with pie retention issues (like myself) or you are using the bike for track days.
