Come to Caerphilly, all that's open on a Sunday are the pubs and betting shops. Oh yes, it's peaceful, but it also means town is absolutely rammed on Saturday because people HAVE TO shop then.

Better yet, go to Bargoed, all that's open week-round are the pubs and betting shops (and Poundland).

Sunday closing is a relic of when Religion dictated terms, people could legitimately refuse (and if they adhered strictly to the rules they HAD to) work on a Sunday.

This was when Great Britain was a Christian country.

Now that there are so many other Cultures and Faiths present, there is no need to close on a Sunday, its not a "Special" day to them, but another day in the week may be.

As said, if a shop wants to open whenever, then let it.

When I used to work 12 hour nights, it would have been nice on a Friday morning at 8am to be able to go somewhere for a pint...

I did wonder about the folks you see in Wetherspoons (or sitting outside) with a pint first thing in the morning. Granted, most were the flat cap brigade but it's weird to go in for a quick coffee or something on your way to the station and see someone guzzling down a lovely cold beer.

Depends if you are a consumer or supplier. I know plenty that like shopping on a Sunday but not many that enjoy working at weekends. The £ appears to be king and the employees just have to bend to these wants

I don't like Sunday working as for me its about family time and special days out or just enjoying the garden together in the summer and people pressured to working on Sundays (either by the employers or by competition) can miss out?

The fabric of society probably doesn't depend on whether you can buy a tea bag at 2am but does to some degree depend on people spending time with families and friends and neighbours and all having the same day off can facilitate that.

It would be weird if there was no day or night too, just Mondays.......

**** convenience stores can't we just have doctors/dentists/banks/postal services that are a bit more flexible. I work daytime so I've not seen a doctor in years and years, getting to the dentist is a right pain and I have to talk people into going to the bank for me most of the time!

I love my doctors, can I have an evening appointment?

4:30 sir.

No evening not afternoon.

6:00. No evening please

We shut at 6 sir.

But I don't get back from work till after 7. How about the weekend then

Sorry we are closed then.

And they then refuse to renew my prescription because I have not been in for a "review". so where possible I do telephone consultations. It would be nice to have all notes computerised and be able to walk into anywhere/anytime and say I want to see a doctor.

"You know you are entitled to time off work to attend medical appointments, don't you sir?"
