My hair is really quite short, about 2", I always had it dyed light blond, tried to get the hairdresser to make the front red (his idea), the colour just fell out after a couple of weeks, he insisted it was permanent, just that my hair would not take it. Maybe I am just strange, who knows?

Have to say I finally went from light blond to my natural muddy blond (still dyed to cover the grey) for the first time in 20 years and most of my family did not even notice, and yes that does include my own mother, mother in law, both brothers (who I see almost every day), it even took my best friend two months to ask had I changed my hair colour?

Am I invisible?

Thats down to how porous your hair is. If its very porous, it will take it like a sponge.
If its not porous, it'll take longer in the dying process and won't last so long....and yes, that goes for permanent.

Porous hair is extremely easy to lighten, and it doesn't take as long for the colour to develop...ie if it says leave on for 25 mins, its usually done in less.

I went through a phase of wanting my hair dyed when I was younger (teens). Went to a local hairdressers, they took a small sample of my hair.

Came back a few hours later and they told me its not even worth trying, my hair is too black lol.

I've seen Chinese people with coloured hair so maybe my type is just "wrong".

They were probably saving you the embarrassment of going round with a ginger barnet!
