Re: anyone had to have a metal plate screwed into bone?
Sorry designed was the wrong word. Planned is what I was getting at, as you mentioned above.
If it was the surgeons plan that the plate was not to be removed extra effort may have been made to secure it therefore making it a tad more difficult to remove. If the plan was always to remove it extra effort would be made to make the removal as simple as possible. If you are young and fit and the bone has healed well would it not always make sense to have the plate removed to avoid possible complication in the future? If not is this just the cash factor and the risk of surgery factor? |

But the risks of infection, anaesthetic risks, wekening the fracture site etc outweigh the small chance of complications if the implant is left in. Any problems would be sorted as and if required. Bear in mind that I am no way an orthopaedic surgeon, just one of their lackies. And it is only my opinion based on working in trauma theatres for 11 years. :) |

Does it stop you having an mir scan.
Just the other half has one coming up and wanted me to hold her hand |
Re: anyone had to have a metal plate screwed into bone?
I've got a T-plate in my left leg. Been there 2 years last Feb. I went to the docs last month as its started to hurt sometimes. They X-Rayed and saw that the bones have healed nicely but there's a screw which has loosened up a bit causing the pain against muscles and nerves. So they're going to operate and remove the extra stuff. I'm waiting for a call to tell me when I'm due.

Not sure they let you in for an MRI. The patient has to lie still and everyone leaves the room.

whenever i or my gf have had an mri scan, you are in there alone. safety more than anything and you go into the machine, so hand holding will be impossible lol

When I had my mid spine done I was put in a full tube and then they inflicted dreadful local radio on my. I nearly had to press the panic button the DJ was so annoying. But for the one on my heel it was an open room, the device only went up as far as my knee. I took a Soundgarden CD to listen too so a much better experience. |

Back and neck.
Had a fall at work went back 6 weeks then some clown pushed a stacked cage in her back. So 6 months on has no feelings in 2 and a half of the fingers . I know I shouldn't be mean but with only 2 bowels left in the cubord. It needs a serious look . |
Re: anyone had to have a metal plate screwed into bone?
Ntec...this might sound daft, but my mum had a fall and got knocked by summat. Got to the stage where she couldn't even pick up a teacup, coz her fingers couldn't feel owt..they thought it were her back
Found out it was something in her shoulder, and had to operate around her elbow or she'd lose all movement in her arm...daft or what!! |
