After seeing all the wadding from my silencer flying out the back of my Cavalier once at mach 2 in one almighty backfire courtesy of a mechanic flooring it trying to work out why it would not rev, I always doubt "not enough pressure" comments. OK my car's exhaust was partly blocked causing the poor running but reading the first comments in this thread I had visions of a small stainless nut "shooting" the bike/car behind as the OP gunned it out of a corner :smt107. Glad it's sorted now and my imagination can go back into it's box.

There a big difference between a small nut and silencer wadding. Even if they both weight the same they are different shapes. It's similar to buoyancy in ships (or aerodynamics) There's very little area to push on a nut when it's sat on the bottom of a pipe so most of the air pressure will be going around it.

To be fair this nut is incredibly small ... 3mm at the most? and weighs literally nothing. It must of caught in the gap between the can and the pipe or maybe in the join between the link pipe and the rest of the pipework im not sure, all i know is it fell out when i took the can and link pipe off haha. I tryed revving it to around 9k and even pulled a few cheeky killswitch backfires to try and 'blast' the nut out and nothing worked... so maybe you're right spanky

Spanky is 100% right (even if the analogy is not so good).

If it had shot out, there were bigger problems in those pipes than a 3mm Nut.

Not doubting that for a second - like I said it was my imagination working overtime. Must stop watching cartoons as they really don't help the scenarios popping up in my head (plus I shudder whenever I see an anvil).

Bring it over mate I've got a four foot breaker bar if that don't budge it a torque wrench would be my next choice!;)
