It's also possible from the blueing on the shift fork that excess lash in that allowed it to try and be in 2 gears at once with the obvious result.
That sort of thing could be caused by problems with drum or external shift mechanism. Either way when these things let go they go with a right f***ing bang. You don't know where those bits went, especially if it locked the back wheel at any point you want to at very least get the shafts up on blocks and clock them up. Check with the factory specs and if they're not bang on then don't even bother. If you put it together with shafts bent even couple of tenths then box will bind up and will explode again very quickly. |

as others have mentioned Chris, i'm more than a little dubious about just replacing a few cogs and putting it all back together and crossing my fingers.
The back wheel didn't lock (that i felt) it just jumped out of gear, luckily it didn't as i was going 'enthusiastically' down the 62. |
