I do 130 miles each day, A3 from Portsmouth way, J10 M25, to J12 M3 and then off at J1 and though to Hounslow.

Grinch's 130 miles.....
Yup, he does. Even when the weather's frosty, or it's p**sing down with rain.... case of having to.... the train's too expensive and takes too long, and if he drove a car it'd put nearly an hour on the journey. If it snows or there are gale force winds, I take him in. Coz I'm a bloody mug like that.....

To all those of you who have the joy of commuting in the south, greetings... Up here in the land of the polar bears etc I do my 30 mile each way commute sometimes by car and sometimes by bike... don't mind too much about the cold but am less keen on the bike in the rain...
Allowing for getting the bike out of the garage and getting the gear on I reckon it takes more or less the same time as the car but that's probably because up here we have fewer people clogging up the roads so the advantages of filtering are less pronounced... I absolutely agree that coming home by bike I feel much more relaxed/less stressed than I do when I drive. |

Of course every now and then i have the option to "work from home" |
I want to do the 40mile commute into work... but I think about it too much before hand and then chicken out.
When I did it for 4 days last summer, 3 of the 4 days I'd get home buzzing... but I really don't like filtering through miles of traffic getting in and out of London. Not to mention the chaos when you're actually IN town. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it but the thinking about it before hand puts me RIGHT off. I can't help but think about it. I'm SUCH a wuss. :? |
i do a 70 ile round trip in all weathers and i love it people say im mad and i probably am but its the only reason i get up at 5:30am today in the snow was fun
i go A1 M25 M11 A12 into bow superb love every minute off it Gricey |
My commute is very pleasant, 11 miles each way through the Wiltshire
countryside. I commute by bike because a) I enjoy it, b) it allows my daughter to use my parking space at work. If it is snowing heavily or the wind is really strong I share a cage with my daughter. Today was the first time this winter it felt really cold. Memo to self: buy one of those neck warmer things. |
100 mile round trip - although I only do it once a wekk - I catch the train most of the time and keep fit by cycling the 25km's between stations. Can't do that on Tuesdays as I have my Dutch lessons and the trains would mean getting home for about 8:30 instead of 7:30.
As said before though perfect way to unwind. No matter how bad the day I'm smiling before I leave the car park  |
216 miles today, all done in a blizzard
only problem was no electric gloves (haven't fitted the loom extension yet), so had to stop ever 30 minutes or so to warm my hands up, but still great fun. Cheers Mark. |
