Ive had my (silly) moments as well... chased an Impreza WRX down on a B road near me in the rain!, theres a straight stretch off a small roundabout, as I pulled up to the roundabout as he was coming around it, he looked at me.. and gunned it... it was game on then  as he probably had a 35mph head start on me as well.... caught up with him at about 110ish mph.. I would have overtaken him.. but luckily I know the roads, and the other side of the road on this stretch is VERY bumpy, way to bumpy for my Kwak to stay in contact with the tarmac... so just sat up his **** laughing my head of shouting 'IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!' he then overtook a 4x4 carrying a horse trailer on a blind bend.. at which point I stopped playing games with him then.... I wasnt that desperate to prove he overspent on his car by about £20K!
Plaid silly buggers with various cars.. cornering on a sharp bend at 135 can be quite scary as well.. especialy when you aint got your feet on the pegs correctly when your boot grounds down... foot shot off the peg, and I ended up cornering at high speed trailing one of my legs behind me just off the peg... you have to be VERY disciplined to not play silly buggers on my bike, as the damn thing begs to be thrashed.. and you end up going much quicker than you think you are :P my mate had a go on it and said simular things... it really does bring out the mental side of you when your on it! |

You don't need that hot a car to keep up with a bike on a tight twisty ride. The difference is there's so much more room to make mistakes without binning it in a car. Margin for error much less on a bike eg if there's some gravel or dung on a bend etc. A car wouldn't even notice - i'd be faster round some of my favourite twisties in my car, and i've only got a little skoda fabia!
On a gixxer6 i've caught up to a ferrari 355 up to about 130 pretty sharpish on a straight, but above that we hit the twisty bit of the snake pass in the wet, and discretion rapidly became the better part of valour.. |
Yeah I probably cornered much quicker in the old banger I had a few years back but then I was able to corner at 99% of its capability and feel safe. In my current car with ESP and all that stuff I can take it to 100% without a worry.
On the bike I only corner at 40% of what it is capable of "just in case". So I never race anyone on single carriageway or down twisty roads. Quick blast on the dual carriageway and that is it. |

I was surprised when I kept up with a ZZR600 down a Surrey back road in the car the other week. I have to say the the grunt form the ST is pretty good low down and it grips amazingly for a front wheel drive machine.
When we got to the lights at the other end he says "that's bloody quick"..... "Not as quick as my 'Blade though" I replied.... But yes, 'tis true, a decent 250bhp car, once rolling can move pretty quickly, and good ones will corner quicker than most bike riders, but the only thing that has ever got close to the 'Blade in a straight drag was a Noble M12, when I was 2 up. That was very, very quick..... |

One of Jezza Clarkson's videos from around 7-8 years ago pitted the then recently launched R1 against (as Clarkson put it) a 'nothing very special' (or words to that effect) Porsche Carerra 4 around a race track.
Each was piloted by a professional driver/rider (tho forget who). The Prosche won, though by a very tiny amount. The Porsche could carry greater speed through the corners. Lets be honest though, we all know bikes are much more fun then cars. Those that choose to race me seem to be chav'd up superminis, of which even on my humble 400 can take them apart. Most of the time I'll let them go. I know I can beat them, but I dont want to put myself at risk. |
Ah yes, the joys of racing cage drivers. I've had wins and losses. I had a roll on race with a Gold R32 and lost up until a roundabout when he lost his bottle, I had a traffic light race with a Ferrar F40, I won mainly because his back tyres just could not get traction and he nearly slammed into a wall. Then there was the time with the AMG merc things who whipped me on the straight but I beat him in the corners with some kneedown sparks thrown in for good measure. I got beaten by a Scooby WRX thingy roll on up a hill, I guess he had all the advantage. Tell you what are quick though are those Pulsar GTI thingies. 220bhp stock and man they fly, still not quite as quick as my SV even up a hill (same one as the scooby but I won). Good fun but easy to get carried away (touches wood).
