Not forgetting RFID passports... (contact-less, to save time at customs in the EU)

Could you not once having one of these installed, use a clear lead based tape or covering over your plate which would stop the RFID tag tranmitting as surely it can not transmit through Lead?

We have RFID cards put on our dustbins  It was melted off with a blow torch as soon as I spotted it. Nothing ever came of it though.

OCR technology in the camera reads your plate, and checks tax etc. As part of this check, is a sanity check to say "Did I get an RFID from that plate as it passed?" No?!?! Red flag that, and you can have a speeding ticket AND a fine for not having a legal plate.

Same applies anywhere RFID is tied into current plans, possibly even fuel stations (although I doubt UKPIA would be happy about this). Pull up for fuel, do you have an RFID tag? No? Well as far as I'm concerned, you're not here, and I'm not starting the pump! No fuel, no riding on the roads.

Fair point, so in effect this will lead to more cloning cos iwould be tempted to re programme the chip with wrong made up details, or scramble it. Also tend to notice most speed cameras due to my road angel. so it is a calculated risk again on not having it on, chance of getting flashed or spoted when carying road angel ? V. slim and as priviously said traffic cops on the decrease negates the risk from them.

The second point will lead to a boom in black market plates to enable people to get fuel and still get away with speeding etc.

Like you if it became law ( and fuel stations did not require it, like you say the Fuel industry will probablt put the brakes on that idea) i would take the chance of having a show plate on and run the risk of failing to notice a speed camera or being pulled.

The only down side is if all fixed cameras are rigged to have a dual function, one for speed trigger and the other a photo if no chip is detected:confused: , that will take some thinking to get around!

Like i said we need someone in this country to stand up and stop this government and its stupid ideas, ill go and get my soap box, ill be apearing in a beer hall (read pub) near you soon!! :smt013 :smt013

Throughly depressed after reading all this, what with the new speed cameras mounted in cats eyes too. This country isn't worth living in anymore, no freedoms or rights or privacy. I'm moving to a desert, oh bugger, satelites can see me there.

I passed my test last month and pick my bike up wednesday, Beginning to regret it already, There'll be no point in the future, you won't be able to go anywhere without being watched or tracked or break speed limits to enjoy the open roads.

I wish i was born fifty years earlier, at least i could of enjoyed biking. Not now.

Please please bare in mind that all of the above thread is purely speculation (definitely on my part). I haven't heard of any concrete plans as yet.

I'm just thinking ahead, in terms of worst case scenario, and what could I do if.....?

Unless you're an illegal immigrant, then you can drive a car/bike without a valid licence, MOT, insurance and get away with it as the law just can't be bothered with the paperwork. There will come a day soon when the govermnment will try to push us too far, then I think we will have civil war on our hands. After visiting Germany it made me realise just how expensive and overcrowded this country has become. The government seem to keen to bend over and take it up the beehind for certain minority groups, yet on the same hand seem unflinching in their quest to crush other groups such as bikers. Who wants to borrow my soapbox, I'm done.

I hope it is all speculation and they'll just be used to prevent cloning.

Around bristol when i was walking from work i must have seen at least 20 satelite dishes branded "cyfrowsy polsat" and a walk around tesco when lots of people are talking and i can't understand any of them makes me highly aware of how un-english and overcrowded this place has become.

I'm going to enjoy biking while i can and when you can longer have fun on the roads I guess i'll have to conform and use dirty trains and buses and ditch the bike. Big Brother will not go away.

Right, soapbox rants over, feel much better now!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

If you don't like something then write to your MP, local councillor etc. Join pressure groups (like Liberty etc) and generally make your opinions known to those who implement these policies.

I reckon a well written and personal letter to your MP is worth a good 10,000 clicks on an online petition.

Poll tax was defeated by popular revolt, the recent road pricing noise, whilst on the face of it ignored, I'm sure made a lot of MPs consider the safety of their own seats. Ok, so 2 million marching on London didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference to Iraq...

Basically, unless you do something about it, there's very little mileage in grumbling. Don't wait until proposals come into force and then object, make a noise while proposals are still being debated.

Get your facts right first though - much of this thread is hypothetical, complaining about a hypothetical position is tricky and can generally be answered by an MP by just saying "those aren't the proposals, don't worry".

Surely you mean "cyfrowy polsat" Quite an interesting TV channel, boardcast on HotBird 7A/8. Though why you have local repeaters I'm not sure, unless Pub landlords have cottoned on to the idea.

Do many of your local pubs have large screen TV's, show popular football matches, and have a disctint lack of Sky TV? Usually having music on in the background whilst the football is on?
