Re: A moment in history.
The assassination of the Russian Czar and his family....:(
First world war Trench warfare.... The charge of the light brigade at balaklava, but also the victorious charge of the heavy brigade earlier which rarely gets spoken about... |
Re: A moment in history.
I'd like to witness the writing of the American Constitution, just to make make comments over their shoulders about how much trouble their descendants are going to get in to arguing over 'the right to bear arms' line. ;)
Likewise the signing of the American declaration of independance, just to knock someone's elbow and smudge it. :p I'd like to see the look on his second in command's face when Hannibal came up with his idea about the elephants. I also wouldn't mind causing a distraction so that Guy Fawkes could actually get away with it. Lastly I'd like to be there with a big hug, hot cup of tea and a biscuit for Oppenhiemer. Just to cheer him up a bit after he declares the has become Shiva, Destroyer of Worlds... ... kinda let him know that it may be touch and go for a bit, but it works out in the end. |
Re: A moment in history.
Well here are my dubious offerings!:p
With Pizarro the Spaniard demanding a massive ransom in gold and silver to free Atahualpa the Inca king, (1532)Rumiñahui vanished in to the Andes with an amount of gold objects, trinkets etc that would today have a staggering value. I would have liked to walk with him and noted where he hid the Inca Gold and to simply marvel at the amount and the exquisite items. The gold has never been found despite many attempts to do so. I would have liked to have been a child of the 60's and have been able to attend the Woodstock festival in 1969. Despite the sickening loss of life I would have loved to been able to observe the arrogant General Custer meet his end at the hands of the native Indians led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull at the battle of Little Big Horn. To walk through Rome at the height of it's pomp and gaze at the spectacular buildings. I would have loved to have been with the photographer that took the pictures of J Edgar Hoover which were passed to the Mafia and were used as tools of blackmail for many years against him to head off the FBI defeating organised crime. |
Re: A moment in history.
I'd like to have been present on many of the great voyages of discovery in Africa and the Americas. Also Cook's voyages to Australia and Polynesia.
I'd like to have taken part in the cipper races and seen Thermopolae and Cutty Sark blatting it out round the Horn Battle of Jutland-The last time the battle fleets of two nations lined up and slugged it out. |
