Health and Saftey issues are the reason most garages do not allow you in their service areas. It is very annoying having somebody standing beside you asking why/what for etc and it would not be the first time I have handed them the spanners and told them to do it themselves or leave and let me get on with my job.

Not all main dealers are expensive crooks, not all independants are reasonable and honest.
Knowing several of them personally it's entirely clear to me that the individual tool whirler is the important factor. There are very few people in the trade that are truly incapable, it's more a question of attitude than ability.
There's one main dealer I can think of all of whose emplyees are excellent and very capable, and one independant that specialises in an exotic make that I wouldn't allow to adjust my chain.

It not always the tool whirler's fault either though. It not the mechanic who decides how many cars or bikes to book in for service in a particular day, he's just the one who gets put under pressure to get the job done, so he only skips things because he hasn't got time.

If cheaper, substandard or wrong materials are used that's not going to have been his decision either.

Employee motivation and satisfaction (attitude) is usually a direct result of the management. Listen to your employees when they say it's the wrong oil, give them the time to do the job properly, pay them the going rate, and give them the training they need, and most will be happy to do a good job without cutting corners. This is how a dealership will achieve customer satisfaction.

My 600rr need a major service in 1500 miles, :(

I've been using a small independant guy but he's retired now, he did my last service from home for £70 including oil, filter, brake fluid etc.

Not sure if he will have the tools etc to do the major. No doubt honda will want a nice wad of cash. Tyres will be due in another 1500 as well no doubt.

I just had a look through my service book and the person who owned my bike before keep all invoices etc aswell (LEGF END) and they were charged £170 for the same service. :-)

Sounds about right!

Unless you do it yourself!

OR USE SPANNERMAN!!

£170 for a service, cheap as a David Dickinson takeaway that is:rolleyes:

I need the ADV doing in a hurry as the bikes are leaving for Morocco in ~14 days, I haven't the time to service it myself

Including VAT and parts it's going to cost ~£350
