What do you class as an Adventure bike? Is a tall bike with no off road pretention (ie: Versys, Triumph Tiger) an Adventure bike?

If insurance is an issue go and get a ride on a Versys.

Bandit 1250 is a cracking bike.

you wanna go for older bikes or wait until you have a bit of no claims, as my gixxer not worth crazt money i can insure it at a descent price, but on the newer k6/k7 models which are worth about 5k the insurance is crazy.

+1 for an older bike. Cheap as chips to insure, and cheap to buy so you don't need FC insurance. Older "sports" bikes tended to be far roomier too. An old Thunderace as stated would be...well...ace! Or a 600 even like the Thunder Cat or a ZZR (I have one so I'm biased). Cheaper to run and tax too than some of the bigger stuff.
