Re: Holy moly!! Biker rear ended video.
Did the old fella show any genuine concern, maybe pay you a hospital visit or even just send a card?

Re: Holy moly!! Biker rear ended video.
Wow, the front of the bike basically exploded. Impressive.

When I did my DAS, the instructor always told us to leave the bike in 1st with the clutch held when sat in queuing traffic like that and to keep an eye on our mirrors. Told numerous stories about seeing someone approaching too quickly / not noticing the traffic queuing and having to pull into the gap down the middle of the road, only to see the car smash straight into the car at the back of the queue (much like in this vid). Always makes me cringe when i see bikers sat in a queue with both feet on the floor and hands tapping away on the tank in their own little worlds... ...just re-enforces the case for filtering in my mind! |

But its not always safer to filter either. Watching the video, it looks like he did come upto the car in front a little hot and had to break hard himself. Although its no defence to the woman behind, if he had taken it a little slower, the car behind wouldnt have been going so fast either. |

If that's not good advice, what advice would you give in this situation? @Speedplay - yeah filtering's not always the best thing to do, but if it's a choice of using available space to either side of the stationary car ahead, or get shunted, I know which I'd choose! It's all theoretical, and I'm aware that keeping an eye on your mirrors when the car in front has just braked fairly harshly is a bit tricky, but I guess it all comes down to better planning (IN THEORY - bearing in mind I'm not suggesting that I'd have ridden any better than the poor guy in the vid!!) |
