I couldnt buy one of those 800s - just too fugly imo, although the reviews do seem quite encouraging

if i can add my tuppence, i wouldnt be caught dead on a beemer unless i had received my free bus pass, had a set of soft slippers and smoked a pipe. any beemer costs twice as much to service as any jap bike and even if they find nothing wrong the agents still stitch you up. i have a bad back as well but can put up with my sv just ,but the tdm yamaha takes an awful lot of beating as an all rounder. so does the gsx1400/yam 1300 . My advice is to try out lots of bikes before plumping for one that may end up gathering dust in the corner. I like many here like the looks of the new beemers, but they all have problems of one kind or another.

How did you upgrade the front with ohlins? Cartridge fork conversion or just springs?

I'm back to the dealer to get everything signed up tomorrow.

Much better than the Beemers, (F800S or the 650 GS Dakar) and all for £4,500 on a deal at Infinity with the halp of a £100 off voucher, (non-ABS), which is nice. The bike is tall, lightweight, and pretty nippy... and at least I'm sticking with a Vee-Twin! comfy to ride and it'll be good for the commute or a motorway journey and I reckon it'll be fun in the twistys too!

I tried the 650 V-Strom too but it's a big old beast and not as pokey or useable as the Versys. It'd be good if I had a motorway commute every day though.

I like the Versys, with it's big mad grinning skull headlight and all.

Buy some ACF50 and get it onto the brake line unions, and all the fasteners you can see, before you get it wet :)
