Aha! Good plan. When you say you don't need batteries do you ahve the 12v rechargable battery pack?

Thats the bit I was saying about a Li-Ion battery. It plugs into the bullet cam. The recorder has an internal battery for itself (again, Li-Ion).

Awesome. I shall be purchasing one of thems soon then. I really want to get video of my front wheel while I ride along. I really love that shot whenever I watch any racing. Plus I wouldn't mind seeing how high the wheel goes on some little wheelie helping cambers on a particular bit if road.:)

Watched a chunk of the video. Not quite what I was expecting. Look forward to seeing more.

So what were you expecting to see? Me hooning about? :p

That was the first run with the camera, and I wasn't sure if the mount would hold etc, so was taking it pretty easy.

Ok have d/l and watched the vid and read the spec of the JXD 921 ... the footage is good quality, but it only records at 320x240. Some of the other models in the JXD range record at 640x480.

It is recording in a format that has good compression and can be plugged straight into movie maker, which is great and what attracts me to it. So I am seriously considering a JDX, but one with a 640x480 recoding :)

Nice one Baph :)

… oh and as for charging … I use a 9v (cam) and a 5v (pmp) fixed volt regulators from maplin … job jobbed and for <£2 ;) fixed regulators

Finally how does the ordering form Hong Kong thing work out? (never done it)

Same as ordering from Huddersfield. I bought from ebay, so it's the same as buying from ebay with a seller living anywhere else. However, there was a customs form on the parcel, and it had a cross in the "Gift" box. I can only assume the seller thought they were indicating "No this is not a gift."

Some things to note about the JXD. The 921 (mine) stated in the sale that it could record at 640x480 or 320x240. The manual is written in jibberish (English translated from Cantonese, Japanese, Mongolian, German, Spanish, Italian and a couple of other languages, in that order). I haven't worked out yet how to change the size of capture. I still have no idea why my first video was shot in grey whilst the others have been in colour.

The unit needs power to be able to talk to the computer for uploading files recorded etc. The cable can come out if it's not in securely whilst on a sprited ride, nothing some tape won't resolve though.

There's probably some other things that I'm forgetting that are little niggles that I can live with, but might bother other people. The AV out to my TV is nice, but 320x240 displayed on a 48" screen looks pants. The kids were impressed though. :D

Colin

Any more info on how he uses this (I know about the camera, just wondering how he attaches it to the bike)? It sounds quite interesting. I've been umming and arring about a setup similar to how baph describes. As I have a PSP though, I think PSP underseat with a modded camera (I'd make a lead to allow me to have a wire going from it to the psp, so the camera could be semi-permanently mounted on the bike) on the front of the bike might be good...

Edit: Ah, found it. Good for the money, but it gets the sort of vertical roll/stretch common on cheap cameras (my aiptek DV camera does this).

I still dream of a discreet (IE not immediately obvious to police) "black box" that is constantly recording the past hour (recording over itself when neccessary) while the engine is running which I could leave on the bike (IE it'd be powered by the bike's battery). It'd serve two purposes:
1. to catch those funny impromptu moments/great runs (which you could then keep by pulling over and switching the sd card over)
2. (the main reason) act as a 'witness' for insurance claims (yes I know the limitations of video evidence in court, but if it's just to get money in civil court, rather than send them down in criminal court, the burden of proof needed is significantly less).

Ok, I now own a JDX638, came through the post on the 'slow boat from China' today! … :)

Sure enough it initially defaulted to Chinese menus like Baph's, but you can change to English if you fumble your way through o the settings menu 8)

So its in English - all good now. I need to try it plugged into my bullet cam, but it deffo has a 640x480 record setting :)

I’ll take some footage and post it up.

Thanks Baph for convincing me to go Chinese!! :D

You're welcome. The 638 is apparently a lower model than mine (in terms of what, I don't know).

Hope it works well for you. I took mine to the AR, then completely forgot about it until it was too late. Oops.

doh, it was all going so well ... I can make video, but not view them on my PC .. the little disk I got with the thing with codecs etc on doesn't work ... did you have an install disk that you had to use to get yours to work baph?? (I have the driver, so can access the memory, just when I try and play recorded movies on pc, I get

"Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered an error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing
Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Intel IMA ADPCM (11) codec is not installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Intel IMA ADPCM (11) codec, go to the WMPlugins.com Web site. "

I am trying to find but no joy yet

HELP!!
