Dirty boy.

Spiers. I forgot to ask. Did you ever catch that Desmo on the way the Market Harborough?? I tied keeping up with you two for all of 2 minutes till I decided it probably wasn't a great idea.

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

That duke came flying past us after I let him past, I was gonna play and let him try keeping up with me, but I got bored and let him through.

Edit, forgot to add a ;) at the end of my post.

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

Ha, yeah I did. When I saw he caught up it was like a red rag to a bull.
He pulled off about 5 miles down the road. He was quick in a straight line but a tad slow round corners.

Even the duke couldn't out do frankengixxer lol

Good work :)

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

It was good fun going after one. He didn't look behind him for the entire time but when he did when he turned off I think he was a bit suprised I was right behind him.

-Ralph- 10-04-11 09:13 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

I saw the way he way riding in my mirrors, pulled over, and waved him through. Lenny and I were not hanging around, and he had obviously caught up with us from behind, so I knew he was travelling quicker than us and was going to be all over my tail until he got through.

I am getting too old and sensible! ;-)

-Ralph- 10-04-11 09:24 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

Lenny, I was ****ing myself when you missed that bend and shot straight on down a country lane!

I hadn't seen Spiers go round that bend, but I'd made the assumption that's where we were going and was just setting up for the corner, then when you didn't tip in for it... EH?!

Why is Lenny going straight on? Are we going that way? Nope, Lenny is braking and there's Speirs down there. Why is Lenny going that way? OK, I've delayed tip in that long, I'm not going round that bend now either, ABORT FOLLOW LENNY! Realise what just happened and burst out laughing! Almost all the riders behind did the same thing.

What happened? Did you just not see the bend, or did you just decide you weren't going to make it?

Mr Speirs 10-04-11 09:25 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

He was just riding quick in a straight line. Around 125 most of the time.

-Ralph- 10-04-11 09:31 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

I was too close on his tail TBH, we were basically tipping into the bends a split second apart. I didn't give myself enough time to think. Had I been a hundred ft behind, not 20-30 ft, I had have just sailed round the bend laughing at Lenny.

-Ralph- 10-04-11 09:39 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

I have a bad habit of planning the road ahead, but ignoring the rider immediately in front and just accepting them as a moving black spot in my vision, and just planning around them, so my brain almost blocks out the fact there are there because I'm not looking at them, I'm looking past them, they are just a bike shaped object moving across my field of vision, and I end up too close.

If someone is slower than me I realise it and back off because they are holding me up, if someone is quicker than me it doesn't matter, it's only when I'm on exactly the same pace as somebody else, like Lenny and I were yesterday, that you end up almost with two bikes operating as a single unit. So, sorry if I crowded you Lenny.

Specialone 10-04-11 10:00 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

Luckily, I was a bit behind with rob I think so watched all this unfold lol, very first thoughts was somebody had binned it :(, didn't see chris and guessed something like that happened :)

I had a certain three figure limit in my head yesterday that I didnt exceed under any circumstance, even on straights, I was a good boy :)

KPH

And I bet I know the corner, speirs amd I have gone straight on at least once... and it was after over taking a line of cars, they saw us do it then we had to overtake them again.

Me neither :---)

Actually, the sat nav isn't easy to read when the speeds pick up, so with the speedo not working, I have no idea what my top speed was. I only looked at my speed through towns and villages.

You enjoyed your run through the wider twisties from my fuel stop to Melton Mowbray, I was watching you in my mirrors!

It the nickname for Chris' new Gixxer. It's such a pretty beast, it's been compared to Frankenstein.

The way it is laid out, it's very easy just to think the road goes straight on, and not realise there's a corner there until you've missed it.

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

I was looking in my mirrors wondering if Ralph had made the previous bend ok cause it was a bit of a tricky one. At the same time I was accelerating hard in second. By the time I realised I was supposed to be going right I was going too fast so had to go straight on to slow down. To be honest at some points in the day ı was riding a bit close to my limits and concentrating soley on catching chris rather than riding for myself, thankfully that was the worst that happened.

After that ı relaxed a bit and was actually just as quick anyway.

-Ralph- 10-04-11 11:37 AM

Re: Are we gonna have a rideout this year or what???

Let's swap places next time then and you can chase me instead of Spiers, we are more evenly matched in terms of pace and you'll be more comfortable. On my SV I'd have been sat on Spiers tail, but then I was pushing that bike to it's limits and crashed it three times, once was ice and pretty unavoidable, but twice it was entirely my own fault, a highside and a lowside as the result of pushing too hard in a corner.

I decided that yesterdays pace was is quickest as I ever want to ride from now on, and that will only be on occasion when having a play on rideouts and so on, not every time I get on the bike. Leaving some margin for error and not doing corners as fast as I possibly can.

I couldn't have gone much faster yesterday anyway, because yesterday was my first day starting to gel with the Daytona.

There were also a lot of corners yesterday, especially on the road that goes from Market Harborough to Melton Mowbray (where that idiot on the Ducati came past), where the hedges were quite thick and high, so you were kind of riding with tunnel vision, and I was thinking "I'm happy, bikes happy, could go faster", but I don't dare twist the throttle more because I can't see far enough. If there was a broken down car or a 15mph tractor just round the bend, you'd be screwed. A lot of blind summits that have you backing off the speed yesterday too, 'cos you just don't know what you might find on the other side.

I enjoyed most of it Col tbh, even the tighter corners when i was behind you guys, no one really pulled away from me, except chris I didn't see him :)
I got more confident as day got on so I relaxed a bit.

Good day :)

Ah no I was still talking about that Desmo.

**** knows what happened with Lenny. I now realised where you mean, theres that 90 left which looks like it could go striaght on and then the 90 right that looks like it should go straight on. Lucky you did it on the right :)

I do the same Phil, a tend to hover at a three figure speed even on straights, I prefer to try n be quicker round corners. Occasionally I'll stray over, especially when a Desmo gives it some in front of me.

I quite liked the Franken-moose (in mad max stylee way). But what's with the indicators? You'd be better off with a fairy light. Oh, and I think you're down to one brake light bulb
