Re: Simoncelli down
That tribute brought a smile to my face, what a guy. Also made me well up, what a loss to motorsport, he gave it his all and had so much more to give. One year older than me, what a talent :-(

Re: Simoncelli down
Schwantz has written quite a nice piece - 34 on 58:

Re: Simoncelli down
RIP Marco.
A huge loss for the MotoGP world. I'm sure he would have been on the podium regularly next year and beyond, but sadly it is not to be. He seemed a genuine, likeable and fun character, like his mentor Rossi in his early days, which is such a contrast to his ultra serious rivals. I'm sure he did it to rile them, ruffle feathers. His racing predecessors and many fans appreciated him and could see potential, so why shouldnt Marco take the fight to them. After all, he must have shown enough already to earn his place on #58. Good man, good racer. We will miss you. |

Hopefully his estate will bring out a number 58 decal with proceeds benefitting family or a charity a I'd like to buy one from them rather than the profiteers already on ebay.

Re: Simoncelli down
there's not much anyone can say in situations like this. Let's remember him as a real competitor, a hard charger and a vibrant human being with life in front of him.....sometimes racing is a cruel mistress
. Sympathy to all his friends and family............ Godspeed Marco. |

Re: Simoncelli down
These were from his official fan page on Facebook which I think his family/team oversee, there was a post yesterday to say his body was at the Church of Carino in Italy for any fans who wished to say goodbye. Bit far, but i would have loved to have gone.

Re: Simoncelli down
Well this isn't tacky and although people on here haven't gone overboard on photos, I thought I'd share this. I think it's a brilliant photo. Maybe sums up his style/ ability.

It's his funeral today... No parent should ever have to bury a child, this must be so heart breaking for them.

Re: Simoncelli down
If you watch footage of stoner he does it all the time. Hayden used to do it a lot as well when he was on the Honda.
It is cool as anything tho, ain't it? Probably not suitable for wokingham mini roundabouts else I'd be doing it all the time (I'm that good and I'm that cool, honest!) I do feel for the parents today (as fenjer said) but tomorrow may be even harder when they're then on their own - other family gone to their homes once funeral is over. I'm still completely gutted. It's another senna moment for me but as has been said so many times before in this thread it's not had the attention it warranted. He hadn't made it big yet but by heck, was he going to. |

Re: Simoncelli down
Ciao Marco, i had the pleasure of meeting you many many times, at Donnington, Silverstone, Brno, Valencia and Mugello. probably the nicest guy in the paddock. MotoGP won't be the same without him. He was the future.
He is MotoGP's "Senna" R.I.P |

I haven't had chance to see the funeral. My pc won't let be use the site. Did find this of happier times when he was on the Gilera, I just love this photo took me two days to find it.

Re: Simoncelli down
Wow, it might seem a crass comment, but given his Dads words earlier in the week and his demeanor and conduct at the funeral, all I can say Wow and respect and words that don't do the Dad justice.
