Jesus it looks like a decent size engine also probably a 200-300 that's lethal.

gripe and smile.. my pink triangle turntable motor was past its best so got a nice new one in the form of a Rega 24v motor kit and the NEO power supply so i could adjust the speed due to unobtanium original belts.

this has worked out a treat :-) had to raid the penny jar. while i was at it i got a new cart, AT-VM95ML and VM-95C stylus for setting things up (better wrecking a cheap stylus).

i'm sort of a bit of a cartridge snob as my current choice is a Reson Reca (1042 stylus) i have many more that are around the same price. all i can say is this VM-95C £29 cartridge is an audio fekin bargain. cant stop listening to records, so much so i CBA putting the VM95ML stylus on..

yes its gobbledygook to most..

so my smile of the day is enjoyment from something that costs £29 instead of the usual £300+.

Oooh, I'll have to check that AT cartridge. I've got a Goldring Elektra on my Planar 2 and the stylus has had well over its 1,000 LP sides, but as I don't listen to vinyl much these days I'm a bit reluctant to pay the £70-odd quid for the stylus (I'm from Yorkshire, we're worse than the Scots) if I can get a good-sounding cartridge for under £30.

The Goldring is good but a bit 'safe', a brighter-sounding cartridge would suit the stuff I listen to (mostly rock).

the Elektra is a fine cart and if your used to the sound but want a bit more sparkle i would choose the VM95E it has the better stylus for £10 more.

the VM95C is nice but its a bit rolled off in the highs with a hint of IGD. there is also a tad more groove roar but less surface noise than i expected.

Has it got a triple knob joint with snatch membrane or have I been watching too much Fry & Laurie?
