Yet more bo**ocks from motorcycle news, why do people continue to buy this crap!

Simple, SV650 is a small twin and it does not rev high which means you need to use the torque. 2-1 systems offer more torque; this is proven fact that even HRC will agree too. Just look at Colin Edwards' SP2 in 2002, he had more grunt out of the corners in the early part of the season when running a 2-1 system. After the Suzuka 8hr Endurance Race, mid WSB season, Edwards got a new engine and a 2-2 system. Why, because the new engine revved more meaning Edwards could eventually out drag Bayliss and Xaus' Dukes on the straights.

The Renegade 2-2 exhausts on the SV is crap, the gas flow is pi**-poor and there welding is a disgrace. No one could match the dyno numbers, strangely only the Renegade dyno could produce higher than standard results. As for their air kit, well you may as well use a two condoms as pod filters!

Move along now, no sweeping generalisations here :-P

2-1 offers more torque on that particular motor, might be par for the course but you could make a 2-2 have the same gas speed and similar performance if you cared to.

I've just read the article from MCN.....where do they get these "technically-minded" mooks from??

The only thing I've heard about this from a leading exhaust manufacturer, Akropovic, was when it came down to End can choice.

That being that a Carbon Fibre can may need to be re-sleeved at some point due to the reasonance/pulse created by a Twin causing the Carbon to crack.........

This said, I've seen LOADS of Carbon cans on all sorts of V-Twins.

Yes, there is a stronger pulse from a twin, but most of the manufacturers of either performance makes or OE stuff have spent a substantial amount of money and hours getting their products right.

Can companies get a bike, make a jig for a link pipe to fit, and stick them in a box.
A can is a can is a can.

Yeah companies making systems will spend some, but they still tend to finish them off with a standard silencer.

True, but its far easier and a lot lighter to make a 2-1 than it is to design a 2-2 to act as a 2-1.

If you have a high rev'in twin, like the kitted SP2 and the fully kitted RSV a 2-2 will be the exhaust to go for. Other than that go for a 2-1.

I hate this so called well documented fact, yet again MCN spreading more BS without looking into the real facts!

You can have a carbon can on a twin, look at the early WSB 916 and 996. If you make the sleeve out of quality carbon fibre like Akrapovic, Remus, M4 and Termignoni you won't have any problems. The "carbon fibre is no good for twins" crap comes from budget exhaust companies who use pi**-poor super thin carbon fibre manufacturing techniques. This is what causes the carbon to crack, not the v-twin pulses but the poor quality carbon sleeve.
