More rumour mill stuff!

1. You cant be pulled by a policer officer who is on his/her own, they have to have a partner with them.
2. Police are now no longer allowed to actively chase a biker speeding due to health and safety?!

In Scot's Law there is a need for corroboration but a lone cop can still stop a vehicle. In England there is no requirement for corroboration so a single cop can quite happily book out.

Both bits of that are rubbish. Who feeds you this stuff?

Random pub conversations!

Thanks for clearing it up though. I suspect a mate of a mate of a mate said something distantly related and the story gets twisted!

Er AFAIK you can be *stopped* by a lone cop but it needs corroboration, that corroboration can either be another cop[1] *or* some kind of mechanical aid (such as VASCAR, calibrated speedo etc).

Druid

[1] the word of two officers that you were exceeding 30 is enough to 'do' you for example.

I'm not entirely sure, I forgot to put the caveat that I am scots law trained in. Not entirely sure with English stuff.

I think the H&S thing about not chasing bikes may be a force-specific policy. My understanding is that South Yorks don't actively engage in pursuits with bikes unless the chopper is available to join, but there isn't any reason why they can't pull you for an offence. This is only based on watching police camera action and a brief tour with the guys who run the air support unit though, and should be taken with at least 3.7 metric pinches of salt. Other forces are available, and the risk to your health and licence may go up as well as down.

I certainly would have said chasing a seeding bike was meant more as going after one to stop it. A lot of forces won't engage in a pursuit, as in, caught up with speeding bike and illuminated blue lights and it doesn't stop...

Thats my understanding of the west yorkshire view point, they'll try pull you if you've been naughty but if you refuse to stop (unless the heli is on hand) they'll end persuit to avoid casualties. Then they follow it up with a knock at your door, so you still loose :)

The 1 officer been in the car is as druid said, if they've got equipment in the car then it doesnt matter how many occupants it has. If there is no equipment then they need a 2nd officer to coroboboeroboboeorate (sp) ;)

Either way its just not worth the risk.

West Yorkshire did the Org's original bad boy who ran. From memory he got banned for 3 years. I seem to recall they gave up chasing and got him when he had stopped in Hawes. The last I knew he regretted it.
