When you do your tax return depends on what your business classes as its trading year.
Most people have theirs coincide with the hmrc tax year of April 6th- April 5th or jan 1st to December 31st.

why didn't you just ask Peg all the things about self employment? I'm sure its cropped in convo that he was self employed for several many moons before he came up ere?

Anything you need to know just pick up the phone....always an excuse for moer tea and cake!

Maria, make sure you're ringing the right number, you will want new business advice, tbh, I ain't got much faith in the call centres, I rang and spoke to two different people about the same thing and got two different answers.

Everything is online now so I'd get most of your info off there tbh.

When I started up, I made an appointment with a registered accountant and he gave me all the information I needed. Could be another way round for you?

Yeah had the right number, they're just a bugger to get through to! I;ve got the answers to most things online but there's always a few things you want to clear that no amount of trawling through forums and such will answer!

Aye, off to talk to a relative tonight for some advice and then will have to sort out an appointment with another accountant. I was just told the tax office are really helpful and I'm sure they are....when they pick up the phone! Will sort it, thanks chaps :)
